When you sneeze, achoo, or cough, excuse me, you spread germs. Germs are microorganisms that are too tiny to see, but they play a big part in getting us sick. When one person is sick and they spread their germs to a healthy person, the healthy person can get sick, too. Let's try this experiment. Let's pretend that I'm sick and about to sneeze. And imagine that these pieces of confetti are just like the germs when we sneeze. Ready? Achoo! It went everywhere! Whoa, did you see that? Look at all the places the confetti went. Sorry. Germs can contain viruses. So if germs can contain viruses, why does viruses make us sick? When we touch our eyes, nose, and mouth with our hands, these germs can enter our body. And when these germs and viruses enter our body, this is how we get sick. But how does these viruses make us sick? Come on, let's check this out. So, we're going to pretend that each of these balloons are cells in our body. And this ticket is a virus. This little virus will enter our body and attach to a cell just like this. And the virus will make the cell create copies of the virus. Oh no! Did you see all the copies of the virus inside the balloon? Oh no! So then all the copies of the virus will take over the cell and then the cell will... whoa! Explode! This makes all the copies of the virus attach itself to the other cells just like this. And then it will just create more viruses in each cell. This is how the virus spreads once you get a germ in your body from someone who is sick. So this is why you always got to wash your hands. We can prevent viruses from getting into our body by washing our hands with soap and water. Soap will kill all of those germs and the water will wash them away. So now we know why we get sick. Let's take a pop quiz! Question number one. Where is the best place to sneeze? Is it A, on your best friend? Achoo! Sorry. Or is it B, in your elbows like this? Achoo! Or is it C, on your hands?
